So, What is it Like Being On Nutrisystem?
A typical day on Nutrisystem for me would be to wake up (usually before 8 a.m.) and fix myself a protein shake. I loved the chocolate and the strawberry flavored shakes. Sometimes instead of making a shake I would add the shake packet to my cup of coffee for a yummy, delicious mocha. That way I would get the “wake up call” I needed from the caffeine and the protein from the shake. Best of both worlds, if you ask me.
I would also eat a Nutrisystem breakfast entrée. And of course start drinking my water (Nutrisystem says to drink 8 – 8 oz. glasses of water a day).
A few of my favorite entrees would include the Honey Wheat Bagel or the Blueberry Muffin.
Around 11 in the morning, I would eat a snack. According to the guidelines of Nutrisystem’s program a mid morning snack included a “power fuel” or otherwise known as a protein.
One of my favorite power fuels was a hard boiled egg.
Lunch was usually around 1 or so and included a Nutrisystem lunch entrée and another power fuel.
I loved the Meatball Parmesan Melt and I usually ate either a string cheese or a low fat yogurt with it. Another one of my favorite lunch entrees is the Italian Wedding Soup.
Later, around 3 or so…my belly would start to grumble again…as you can see you eat about every two hours while on the diet. The food along with all the water you drink keeps you feeling full and satisfied and helps to keep you from grazing all day on junky stuff. This is called your “afternoon snack” and Nutrisystem recommends that it be a ‘smart carb’. Remember smart carbs included fruits, whole grains, some veggies, etc.
My favorite smart carb was a cup of fruit….maybe strawberries, or an apple or sometimes a 1/4 cup of whole grain crackers or raisins.
About 5 o’clock, that ol’ dinner bell would ring and I would once again feel the tummy rumble. I would eat a salad (lettuce, carrots, broccoli, green peppers, etc.). I would use two of my ‘extras’ (remember Nutrisystem allows you to have three extras a day, which includes things like air popped popcorn, sugar free jello, sugar free syrup, and low fat salad dressing). I usually chose low fat ranch dressing. I poured two tablespoons of dressing into a small condiment cup and kept it on the side of my salad, I never poured it directly onto of my salad.
Along with my salad, I would eat a Nutrisystem dinner entrée and another smart carb.
Some of my favorite dinner combos would be the Spaghetti and Meatballs entrée, with a slice of whole grain bread on the side or the Homestyle Beef with Mashed Potatoes entrée and a half a cup of corn on the side.
Around 7 or even a little later (when the kids went to bed) I would eat my dessert entrée. After that I would be so full and satisfied, I wouldn’t feel the need to snack while watching late night tv. I almost always stopped eating at around 8 at night. I came to realize that by going to bed a little bit hungry, I always woke up famished which totally helped me become a breakfast eater.
Studies show that more people lose weight and keep it off by becoming breakfast eaters….so eat your breakfast folks!
A few of my favorite snack/dessert entrees were the fudge brownie, the carrot cake and the bars – a lot of them reminded me of certain candy bars, which is a weakness of mine, so I loved snacking on those.
At some point during the day, whether it was in the morning while the kids were in school or in the evening (when they were home and could go with me), I would take a 30 minute walk to get in my “daily three”…the daily three is Nutrisystem speak for 30 minutes of exercise, broken down into ten minute spurts during the day.
A handy tip about the water is if you drink a glass of water each time you eat (snack or meal), you automatically have at least six glasses done….it’s pretty easy to squeeze the other two glasses in there sometime during the day, perhaps when you finish exercising drink a glass of water. If you are like me, you wake up thirsty…I just reached for a glass of water and boom, there’s another one down the hatch.
Here is picture of Nutrisystem’s Daily Planner….it was my go to guide and food journal throughout. I loved it so much that I photocopied several copies of the journal page, so that while I was maintaining I could use it as a guide and continue writing down what I ate.
That would be a typical day on Nutrisystem for me.
